Types of OCD

 

OCD appears in different versions this is a misconception that solely little hand washing or the habit of organizing things but there are some well-founded compulsions that a person acted after having distressful thoughts regardless of what they are. Some of the types are the following.

Obsessive Compulsive Disorder

In this type obsession or compulsion or both existed. Defining obsession as it is the repetitive and continuous thoughts that are unwanted and have no logical bases for the person but cause potential anxiety. Whereas compulsion is those mental acts that a person operates because of the reoccurrence of those thoughts or to reduce the distress that is caused by obsessive thoughts. Both obsession and compulsion are time taking. Here the notable point is that the behavior or thoughts are not performed in a realistic manner. People can’t avoid them or counteract them and these caused significant clinical stress.

Body Dysmorphic Disorder

Its origin the thoughts that are related to one’s own appearance. The person thinks that there is some serious body defect or flaw that is not apparently observed by others. The behavior that a person performs in this type is to check himself again and again in the mirror, seeking reassurance or approval from others, picking their skin, and the thoughts that person hold is comparing his appearance to others. The symptoms of this disorder should not relate to body fat because that overlaps with an eating disorder.

 

Hoarding Disorder

It is persistent difficulty to throw away or separate the possession because a person perceived the need to save the items. This distress results in the aggregation of possession that make a person live in a congested and active mess.

Trichotillomania

In this type of OCD person persistently pulling his hair that causes hair loss. A person deliberately wants to stop himself by doing such an act but couldn’t stop himself. The urge of pulling one’s own hair is so strong that it causes some serious hair loss and cause significant disturbance in the social life

Excoriation

It is also known as skin pulling disorder. This type has recurrent thoughts and acts that involve pulling one’s own skin. The persistent pulling result in skin injuries. The person repetitively tried to decrease or stop himself. This disorder cause interference in one’s social life and also skin-related problems such as skin infection.
